Written in Ink

Here's a poem that inspired the new title for the blog.  It started as a string of random thoughts, then I took some of them and put them into a poem that made more sense.

Written in Ink
nothing is written in blood, written in ink
nothing is concrete, things change
you think something will happen, then it doesn't
you imagine something, and then it's not true
you don't listen to anything anyone tells you
believing in the worse, wishing for the best
and never getting either
the words that flow so easily from your mind are harder to type down, to write down on paper
you think you know something, but you don't
you wish a thousand times in a single second, and then it's gone
a chorus of "i think, i wish, i hope, i feel, i want"
nothing is written in ink
change happens
its a fact of life
until you realize it, you will never be free

Broken Escalators

Just a poem I wrote after Caliper the other day (and after going down the escalator to get out of the building.) Yes, really. No, this is not a poem that actually happened. Just read it, ok? And comment.

AND yes, my inspiration for this poem were the many broken escalators at school. Enough said, just read it.

Broken Escalator
You are walking down the broken escalator. Maybe walking is the wrong word, though.
You are running, putting one foot in front of the other, faster and faster, until I'm sure you're going to fall.
You don't.
You race your invisible foe to the bottom, land lightly on the ground. You turn back to look at me. You beckon with your hand, "Come down and join me!" I look down at your smiling face, tilted up to see me.
And I find my answer.
I put one foot down, then another, walking slowly. Then I begin to run. Faster and faster, feet a blur on the steps. I keep running, and then I fall. I don't hit the ground.
Your arms outstretched, you catch me as I slip. I get back on my feet.
You place out your hand, palm up, an invitation.
I take it.

New poem

Since I haven't posted in a very long time, here's a poem.

Myrtle
myrtle
a deep forest green
thick
you cannot see through
to the wonders within
warm
comforting, yet mysterious
a place where a faerie tale could live
or a nightmare
anything could come out from within the trees
pleasant, or foreboding

myrtle
a soft, gentle green
carefully enfolding you into the deep
a blanket to keep you warm
a soft place to rest your head
restful
peaceful
drawing you in
but letting you out when the true world calls
allowing you to withdraw from your peaceful slumbers
and slowly bringing you back
to reality

Thunder: Part 3

Part 3:

Brian walked into his room and dumped his backpack on the floor. He walked over to his computer and turned it on. He logged into AIM and looked at who was online. No one. Wonderful. He logged onto his email instead and checked his new mail. None. More wonderful. He hit compose mail, and typed in Amy's email. He had memorized it a while ago. He sat there, wondering what to say. What could he say?

"Brian! Dinner!" His mom called down the hall. Sighing, Brian closed the email. There was nothing to say anyway. He trudged down the hall to the dinner table, where his mom, dad, and younger brother were sitting. He sat down and looked at the table. Corn. Ribs. Mashed potatoes.
Nothing special. He waited for everyone else to take their food before he took. He wasn't hungry anyway.

"So at work today my boss said he was thinking of giving me a promotion, to a higher bank. How good would that be?" His dad was saying to the table. Brian didn't care. His younger brother, Derrik, who was only 10, looked up, and then looked back at his food. His mom nodded. Brian started toning it all out as he picked at his dinner.

"Brian, did you have a good day at school?" His mom asked him. He looked up.

"Yea." He replied.

"Did anything exciting happen?" She asked.

I was stupid and yesterday I broke up with the girl who asked me out, and who I also have a huge crush on. And did I mention that she's really sad about it? And I am too? "No, not really.
We didn't do a lab today, so it was just a normal day." Brian said. His mom nodded. Derrik looked up, and looked at Brian. Brian turned back to his dinner.

After dinner, he went back to his room. Derrik followed him. Brian ignored him and went to sit at his computer, staring out the window, where clouds were gathering in the evening sky,

"Something happened in school today." Derrik said. Brian looked at him.

"What was it?" Brian asked, faking interest.

"Not to me. To you." He said. Brian frowned. "You didn't sound right when you told Mom about school." He explained. Brian sighed.

And told him everything.

Something inside him clicked that he was telling his 10 year old brother about his crazy high school sophmore drama. He was only 10, and Brian was 15. How would he even understand? But Brian just spilled it all out. When he was done, Derrik just nodded, and left.
Figures, Brian thought. That's what you get for spilling your guts to a 10 year old. Brian turned back to look out the window. The sky was black with heavy clouds. In the distance, he saw a streak of lightning fly out of the cloud-ridden sky.

---

Amy sat on her windowsill, staring out the window at the sky. Clouds were quickly covering the bruised blue evening sky. She got up and went over to her computer and signed onto AIM. The only person who was online was Brian. She signed back off. She logged into her email and checked her mail. She opened the one from Chelsea.

From: ChelseaB@aol.com
To: Amy_Millers_159@gmail.com
Subject: Hi!

Hey, Amy! I just wanted to say that I'll find out why Brian dumped you, don't worry. It might take a bit, but I'll get it. By the way, did you see me and Seth in gym? We were totally awesome! What was up with you and Brian, you both kept missing the football! And that is not like you, you are awesome at football. Get it together. Don't worry, we'll work out this Brian thing. Or you could get over him. How great would that be! But you can't go out with Seth. He's mine!

Talk later! I'll call you!
Chelsea

Amy looked over the message quickly. She didn't care. And that part about getting over Brian hurt. Right now, she just didn't care. She closed the message and looked out the window. The sky was dark, filled with clouds. She sat on her windowsill again, looking out into the night. She hugged a pillow to her chest. She closed her eyes, resting her head on the window. She heard, as if from far away, the unmistakable sound of thunder.

Thunder: Part 2

Here it is.

Part 2:

"So, like, I walked over to Brian, and then Seth came over! Like, he's so cute! I don't know how I never noticed that before!" Chelsea babbled on as they were changing in the locker rooms for Gym. Amy sighed.

"Did you figure out why Brian dumped me?" She asked dejectedly. Chelsea turned to look at Amy.

"No, he wouldn't answer." She said softly. Amy nodded sadly, and closed her locker. Chelsea followed suite, and then continued to talk about Seth. Amy started to ignore her friends chatter, toning it out. She wouldn't have minded, but Chelsea's obsession with Brian's best friend, so soon after she had been "dumped," hurt. She numbly walked out into the gym, and sat on her spot, far enough from Chelsea for her to have to stop her monologue. She sat there, face forwards, not looking back. She couldn't look behind her.

---

Brian dragged himself into the gym, exhausted by Seth's obsession with Chelsea. Could he have waited a week? He slumped down into his spot, at the back of the first row. He looked forwards, looking up, and he drew in a sudden breath. It was Amy, walking into the gym with a dejected expression on her face. She dropped into her spot, in the front of her row, and sat stiffly, not looking back. Of course. If she turned around she would see him. He sighed, letting out the breath he had unconsciously held in. He stared at the back of her head sadly. Her long, straight brown hair lay smooth on her back.

Suddenly, as if she had caught him looking at her, she turned around. Their eyes met, and for a moment Brian could see all the pain he had caused her, all in her eyes, in her expression. And then her expression changed, as if she could see the pain in his own eyes. She looked surprised, and then even sadder than before. Her face had a reproachful look on it, and then she turned her back on him. He looked at the back of her head, pain in his eyes.

---

Why had she done that, Amy scoffed at herself, sitting, knees to her chest. She knew that turning around could only hurt her, but she had done it anyway. But what she had seen bothered her.

WEEEEEEEE. The gym teachers whistle burst into her thoughts.

"Groups of two, passing a football back and forth." The gym teacher said bossily. Amy sighed and looked for Chelsea. She then noticed her best friend was walking towards Seth. Amy sighed again and looked around. Soon, everyone had a partner, except for Amy. And Brian. She silently walked over to Brian and caught the football lobbed at her by the teacher. She turned to Brian.

"Lets get this over with." She muttered. He nodded silently, and moved back a few feet. Amy walked backwards for a bit, and then threw the football. He caught it easily and threw it back. Amy jumped for it and missed. As she ran after it, she closed off her eyes. She left them open, but guarded the emotions within them. Brian couldn't see the pain he had caused her, not again. Because it was all his fault anyway. He shouldn't have to see it to know.

When she retrieved the ball and threw it back at him, he looked at her, carefully. She kept her eyes carefully blocked, and looked away from his face, towards the football flying through the air. But even ask she watched the football, she saw his expression. His eyes, so green, looked sad. He looked up too late, missing the football. He ran after it. Hard as she tried not to notice, Amy saw the way his brown bangs split down the middle as he ran, the way he ran. She sighed silently. Why did he look so sad, when he had been the one who dumped her? Amy couldn't make any sense of it. Instead, she pushed it to the back of her mind, and tried to focus on the task at hand -- keeping her pain hidden from Brian.

Thunder: Part 1

Here comes part 1. Are you excited yet?

Part One

"Brian, what the heck is wrong with you? You've been staring at the same page for minutes, and you are READING, NOT playing basketball with your friends. What is with you?" Seth Darren said irritably. Brian Holdbar looked up from the same three words on the page that he had been staring at for ages, thinking he hadn't heard Seth right.

"What?" Brian said, lost in thought.

"That's what I mean. What, did your girlfriend break up with you?" Seth teased him, fully well knowing Brian didn't have one.

"How'd you guess?" Brian said dejectedly. He put the book aside.

"What? When did you get a girlfriend?" Seth asked. He walked over to Brian, dribbling the basketball. "Who asked you, since I doubt you'll ever get enough courage to ask someone."

"Amy." Brian responded. He looked up at Seth. "She asked me."

"Then why would she dump you? What happened." Seth asked, sitting down next to Brian.

"She asked me out yesterday, and we had lunch, and everyone noticed us sitting together, and walking together..." Brian shuddered. He hated attention. "So yesterday I ended it, I gave her a note explaining it, so no one would be staring...."

"That is the stupidest thing I ever heard." Seth said bluntly. Brian looked at him, annoyed.
"If you like her, and I can tell you do, then why do you care that people notice?" Brian shook his head at Seth.

"You don't get it, do you." Brian said. He stood up, grabbed his stuff, and left the basketball court outside the school, went inside school, and made his way to where his first period class was, and waited for the bell. He sat on the side of the hallway near the door. As the hallway slowly became more crowded, Brian saw Amy pushing her way through the crowd to her first class. Her eyes met his, for a moment. She turned away briskly and walked down the hall. Brian saw her brush a tear away from her eye as she walked away.

---

Amy sat down on the grass in the park behind the school building. She took out her lunch and sat there with it in her hands. She put it back in its bag and placed it beside her, and she put her head in her hands.

"Whats wrong, Amy?" It was Chelsea Ballie, Amy's best friend. "Are you okay, and why are't you with Brian? Didn't you ask him out, and didn't he say yes?" Amy sighed.

"He broke up with me, Chelsea. He gave me a note yesterday afternoon. Why, Chelsea, why?" Amy moaned. Chelsea sat down besides her. She made no attempt to say anything, she just patted her shoulder. Amy sat there, her head in her hands, and she cried. She quickly stifled the sobs, and wiped away her tears. "And I can't stop crying." She said sadly. Chelsea nodded silently. They sat there in silence for a moment, and then Chelsea spoke.

"Why?" She asked softly. Amy knew what she was asking about, but she asked, to make sure.

"Why did he break up with me?" Amy sighed as Chelsea nodded. "I don't know. I just don't know. I didn't do anything wrong, did I?" She asked, almost desperately.

"Of course not. Listen, I'll ask Brian why and I'll tell you later, okay?" Chelsea asked. Amy just nodded. She stared at her lunch, to sad to eat it. She put all her energy into not crying, and into looking calm. But she knew that would only last as long as she didn't see Brian, and didn't think about him. She shoved the thought of him to the back of her head and tried to eat her lunch. In truth, though, that was easier said than done.

---

"Brian." It was a girl. Brian could tell that much without looking up from his lunch. He ignored her, pretending he hadn't heard.

"Brian!" There it was again, more insistent. Sighing, Brian turned around. It was that girl, who was Amy's best friend. What was her name again?

"Brian, it's me, Chelsea. You know, from Math class? Amy's best friend?" She clarified. Just then, Seth came over. He looked between Brian and Chelsea, and assessed the situation.

"Yea, okay. Hi." Brian said to Chelsea. She had turned away from him, though, and was looking at Seth.

"Hi!" She said. Seth grinned.

"Hey, Chelsea." He said. She grinned back. Brian looked between them.

"You two know each other?" He asked stupidly. It was obvious they knew each other.

"Yea, we're lab partners." Seth said.

"Yea." Chelsea said absentmindedly. She had turned back to Brian. "I have a question." She said. He sighed.

"Yes?" He replied.

"Why did you break up with Amy?" She asked bluntly. He rolled his eyes.

"I'm not answering that." He said crisply. Chelsea frowned.

"Fine." She said, just as crisply, and she turned and walked away. Seth rolled his eyes at Brian.

"Why didn't you just tell her?" He asked, annoyed. He probably had wanted to talk to Chelsea more, Brian noted, annoyed at his friend.

"Because then she would tell Amy." Brian replied. He turned away from his best friend and walked away, head down. No one would understand.

Thunder: Prologue

Well, it was thundering outside yesterday, but that's also the title of this story. It might actually be finished this summer. Here comes the prologue.
Oh, and its a pretty typical love story, but that doesn't mean it isn't still good! =)

Thunder

Prologue

Amy Millers sat on the seat beneath her window, letting the wind sweep through her loose hair. A few stars glistened overhead, while dark rain clouds threatened to take over them. She sighed. I can't delay it any longer, can I, she thought. She reached into her jeans pocket and pulled out the slip of paper. Brian had slipped it to her at the end of the day. He had looked at her sorrowfully as he had slipped the paper into her hand, and then he had murmured "sorry" as he walked away. Amy had thought she knew what this was about. She opened the note, almost leaning out her open window. Her hair blew around her face as she slowly unfolded the note that she had delayed opening until now. She unfolded it once, and then again, and she flattened it in her hand. She sighed, and then looked down at the note. The little light from her room and the streetlamps on the street below lit the night enough for her to read the few lines Brian had written to her.

As she read the lines, over and over again, the few stars in the sky blackened out from the clouds, and it began to lightly rain. As she read, a few tears slipped from her eyes to join the raindrops falling from the sky. The note got wetter and wetter, from raindrop after raindrop, tear after tear. Soon, it followed the rain down to the ground, and it buried itself in a puddle on the ground. Amy pulled herself inside her room, closed the window, curled up on her bed, and cried.

Because Jennifer is Bugging Me...

Since Jennifer has been begging me to post all last week, I'm posting today. If I don't finish the story any time soon, don't blame me, blame school work, school plays, school concerts, and violin practice. I might finish it in the summer if I don't finish it sooner.

It's a kind of random story about a girl who likes to write stories...I started it a while ago and got to chapter three...I didn't know where to go from there...I wouldn't be surprised if there was a big break between chapters three and four. Don't worry, it'll come out eventually. For now, here's an ultra long chapter one. For once, no prologue.

Elizabeth's Story
By Batya Zamansky

Chapter 1
The Clearing On The Hill

"Beth. Beth? Elizabeth! Get your head out of that notebook and get over here!" I looked up. Marni was shouting at me. I quickly closed my notebook and ran over to Marni, still holding it.

"Honestly! You treat that notebook as if it was a baby! I need your help setting up the tables." Marni said. It was July 4th and we were having a big party for all our neighbors and friends and family. We had a big yard, so we were setting up outside. Mom and Dad were inside cooking, so they assigned Marni, my older sister, and I to set up outside. I had volunteered to help with the cooking, but Mom said that Marni couldn't set up on her own, so I had to help.

"Where do we set up?" I asked. Our land was curvy and there wasn't much flat land to set up the tables. Our barn covered most of that land. But Marni had other ideas, judging by the look on her face.

"We take the tables down into the valley
and set up there, near those three trees bunched up together. There is shade there and the ground is as flat as we're gonna get." Marni said. I groaned inwardly. Moving all those fold able tables into the valley! And then after the meal is over, moving them all back. Gosh.

"All those tables?" I asked, suppressing a groan.

"No way! We're going to do it buffet style. We only have to move these three tables, and all these chairs." She said, moaning. "It's going to take all morning!"

"Then we better get started." I said.

"You should put your notebook down on the porch so you won't drop it. I don't get why you take it everywhere with you."

"You don't?"

"You never told me."

"You want to know?"

"Of course!"

"Okay, then, this is why." I said. "When I found this notebook in the store a few months ago, I knew I needed that notebook. I saved up and was only able to buy it a few weeks ago. It, well, it is calling to me. It wants me to write in it, but I can't figure out what."

"A notebook wants you to write in it?" Marni said. She giggled. "Next you'll be telling me that your pencil moves in your hand. What next, Beth?"

"Do we need to move these tables or not?" I said, gently placing my notebook on the porch railing.

"Okay, lets start with the big one. Lets go." Marni said, and we walked over to the garage to take out the tables.

*****

"Elizabeth! Marni! Grandma and Grandpa are here!" Mom shouted upstairs. We had finished the grueling task of moving tables and chairs and had grabbed a few muffins to take upstairs where we could eat without any interruption. We shared a room. I had half of the room and Marni had the other half. The door to our bathroom was in between our halves, marking the center. I had climbed into bed with my muffin, ate it, and read my book. Marni had gone over to her desk and began instant messaging her friends on her laptop. I had a computer of my own, but I preferred to read. I had hoped that we could just stay upstairs until dinner, but I guess I was wrong.

"Elizabeth! Marni! Get down here now or do I need to come up there!" Mom yelled. I jumped, quickly slid my bookmark into my book, and jumped out of bed, only pausing to slide my notebook under my pillow. Marni snorted.

"Are you coming or not?" I asked her. She snorted again and closed her laptop. She got up and we slowly went downstairs.

"Marni! Beth! Come over here and give me a hug!" Grandma had sat down on the couch and she raised her arms to invite us to hug her. I walked over and hugged her. She smelled like flour, like fresh bread. I got up and hugged Grandpa. I walked over into the kitchen, where Mom was making roast pork. It smelled so good.

"Beth? Can you set up the table cloths and bring out forks and knives and napkins, you know, eating stuff." Mom said. I knew it was a bad idea to go into the kitchen.

"Sure, Mom. Which tablecloths should I use?"

"The red checkered ones. And use the paper napkins. And bring out a big stack of plates, the disposable ones. And the plastic utensils."

"Okay." I said, walking out of the kitchen. I opened the side door and walked outside.

"And don't forget the table cloths!" Mom called after me. I ignored her and entered the garage to get the table cloths and other stuff. I grabbed three table cloths, the box of paper plates, the box of plastic utensils, and the box of paper napkins and put all the boxes on top of the table cloths. I grabbed it all and slowly walked out of the garage and walked down the hill to the tables and chairs.

"Dang it!" I said as the boxes of utensils and napkins came tumbling out of my arms. I took off after them, dropping the other supplies onto the tables as I past them. I raced down the hill after the boxes, only pausing when I caught up to them. I bent down and picked up the boxes. I got up and put them on the table. Then I took them back off so that I could spread the tablecloths. Oh joy, the wonders of July fourth. I set up the tables and went back inside.

"Oh, Beth! Where have you been? We just got here!" Aunt Cora exploded. She, Uncle Ali and my two cousins were standing in the living room. Rachel, my older cousin, was 16 and was talking to Marni, who was also 16. Brian, my other cousin, was around my age. Normally, he would play with Mike and Frank, my 10 year old cousins, but they weren't here yet. Brian was 11. I was 13. I went up to Aunt Cora and hugged her.

"It's nice to see you, Elizabeth." Brian said to me. I looked at him and smiled. He could be nice to me sometimes.

"Is anyone else here yet?" I asked Dad, who was standing in the doorway of the kitchen. Mom probably shooed him away from the chocolate cake while she was icing it.

"Not yet. But they should get here soon. Why don't you and Brian start bringing food out? Marni? You and Rachel can guard the tables, just make sure nothing flies away." Dad said.

"Sure, Uncle Bill." Brian said.

"Yea, sure Dad." I said. Brian followed me into the kitchen and I saw Mom was, indeed, icing the big chocolate cake.

"Dad told us to start bringing food out onto the tables. What's ready?" I asked her. She looked flustered.

"The salads, the pork dish, the appetizers, anything that's out." She said. I grabbed a salad and Brian grabbed the big pork dish. I led Brian out the back door and into the yard. He followed me to the tables and he placed the roast pork in the center of the middle table, the biggest table. I put the salad onto the first table, next to the napkins and plates. We headed back up the hill to get more food. Just then, a minivan pulled into the yard. As soon as it stopped, Mike and Frank jumped out, each carrying a water gun, and ran over to Brian, each of them prepared to shoot.

"Don't hit the tables or chairs or food!" I shouted at them as they and Brian ran off to the far end of the yard. I sighed and went back inside to get more food.

*****

I sank down into my chair upstairs beside my bed. I had escaped the crowded living room and run up here. I hated crowds. I reached for my book and began to read it. But then I heard Mom shout at the top of her lungs.

"Elizabeth! Get down here this instant!" I jumped and ran downstairs.

"I just had to go to the bathroom! The one down here was occupied and even if I managed to get to it, people would stop me." I lied crossly as I stomped downstairs. I stood at the foot of the steps and looked at Mom expectantly.

"As you all know, this is our annual fourth of July party. Marni will show you to where we are eating." Mom said. "I hope you enjoy yourselves." She looked at me, annoyed. "Elizabeth, you should change into something more appropriate. This is our party." I stomped back upstairs, cross. I slammed the door to the room I shared with Marni and threw myself onto the bed. I knew that Mom really wanted this party to be a success. So I decided to do as she said, even though it bugged the hell out of me. I got up and walked over to my dresser, opening a door. I looked through the drawer. I needed a nice tank top, something that would work with jeans. I found a pretty flowered red top and pulled it out of the drawer. I changed into it and slipped on a pair of sandals that had no heels. Then I went outside to join the party. I hoped that some of the roast pork would still be there when I arrived.

"Hullo, Bethy." It was Grandpa. He was walking slowly across the yard. Grandpa and Grandma were both 70 years old, and Grandpa was turning 71 in two weeks. He was very fit and he could have run down to the tables faster than anyone else, but he had decided to stroll slowly, enjoying the view. I slowed my step so that I could walk beside him.

"Hi, Grandpa." I said. I swung my arms around. "It's a wonderful day."

"It sure is, mouse." Grandpa always called me mouse. It was my nickname. I loved it. We strolled down to the tables and Grandpa went over to sit next to Grandma. I crept away to a tree stump and sat there, waiting for Mom to let us eat. But, oh no, she had to do her speech first. Oh, wonderful.

"It is July fourth, the day our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence. It is...." and she went on and on. I stopped listening after a while, but continued to look as if I was. I didn't need another public appearance today. After about ten minutes, she stopped. "I can tell that none of you were listening, but it's okay, I won't start over. It's a family tradition to make a long speech on the fourth of July. Just bear with me for a few more minutes."

After about five more minutes, she stopped. "This meal will be different. My daughters and my nephews will be waiters and waitresses. You will each get a menu and they will get the food for you. Elizabeth? Marni? Can you hand out menus?" She said. I groaned inwardly. Wonderful. Now I won't get any of the roast pork.

"Here, Grandma. What would you like to eat?" I asked. I would behave the perfect waitress so that Mom wouldn't get on my back about being rude to our guests.

"I would like a few slices of that roast pork," I suppressed a moan. "a small pile of that salad, and get me a slice of that chocolate cake for me and I will save it for you. If you're fast, there might be a bit more of the pork left on my plate for you to try." Grandma said. I grinned. She knew that I loved Mom's roast pork, but she only made it for special occasions. I took the order and got Grandma her food. I went off to get Aunt Cora's order. It was going to be a long afternoon.
***

"Thanks, Grandma!" I said. Everyone had been served, but all the food that was left was a few scraps of pork and a bowl of salad. I had given Grandma an extra big serving of pork on purpose, and she knew it because she winked at me as she took the first bite. The slice of cake she promised me was still on the plate, although a small piece had been eaten. I grinned at Grandma and dug into the roast pork on her plate. It was delicious, and I cleaned her plate of it, and the chocolate cake disappeared in a minute. I took her plates and walked them over to the last table where we were storing the plates until we could throw them all away.

"Wonderful idea, Beth! How about you and Marni collect the plates, let your cousins have a rest." Mom said. She had stuffed herself with pork and salad and appetizers and a slice of cake and didn't bother to do a bit of work after that. I moaned, pulling a face, and then walked over to Aunt Melissa and her family to collect plates. Marni only got Mom and Dad's plates before sitting back down to talk with Rachel. I walked over to where Brian, Frank, and Mike were sitting on the grass. Mike still had a small piece of cake left.

"Hey, Beth! Want some cake?" He asked before shoving it into my face. I spit and wiped at my eyes frantically. Then Brian and Frank jumped up and began throwing fatty scraps of meat at me. I screamed as everything about today pressed in around me, I couldn't think clearly, I was suffocating. I ran, hardly able to see where I was going, and I ran straight out of the party. Wiping meat out of my eyes, I ran towards a gap in the trees that surrounded our home. I ran down the path, away from the boys, away from the crowds, into a small clearing, just off the path. I ran and ran until I fell on a rock. I hit my head, hard, and the world started spinning. I struggled upwards. I looked around. I couldn't see through the trees, I was so deep in the forest. The trees around me spun in circles, I saw people, tons of people. I was as big as a galaxy, as small as a cell on a leaf. The world tilted and I fell, into crowds, into darkness where I couldn't see anything, into nothingness.

Poem

Here's a poem, because Jennifer is persuading me to post.

Thinking
Staring out into space
Thinking
Thinking
Until thoughts turn into nothing
And I'm staring out into space
Not thinking at all

One Wish, finally.

I know it's a short chapter, but its the best I have right now.

Chapter Ten: Penelope

Just when I had thought the world couldn't get any worse, it got better.
I had two friends who wouldn't hurt me like Megan had. Who wouldn't judge me, hate me. They liked me for who I was, not because I was popular or smart or anything. But my life still didn't seem right. At least it was better.

Today was Selena's birthday. We, Elizabeth and I, had gotten her cake and presents, the whole deal. It was dark out now, night. I was laying in bed, staring up at the ceiling, not wanting to go to school ever again. True, I had two great friends there, but I didn't want to face Megan or Kate. Or Rachel. And definitely not Mark. It was hard to have to deal with people hating you. But I did have to go to school tomorrow, like it or not. I got out of bed. The idea of school bothered me.
I walked over to my window and opened it as wide as it would go. I pulled the curtains out of the way and rested my elbows on the windowsill as I leaned my head outside. It was a clear night, and all the stars were in the sky. I was reminded of a night several weeks ago, when I had seen a falling star, and made a wish. I had thought my wish had come true, but it hadn't. My luck had turned from good to bad to worse. It was only now that my luck was starting to get better. And it was because of Selena.
I went back to bed and willed myself to sleep.

It was the next morning, and I was waiting for the school bus. When the bus finally pulled up to the bus stop, I got on eagerly. I walked down the bus until I found an empty seat. I sat down and ignored what everyone said around me. That was something useful that Selena and Elizabeth had taught me. Ignore what everyone else thinks. Just be yourself. I placed my bag on the spot next to me, to save it for Selena and Elizabeth.
About ten minutes later, Selena got on the bus. I put my bag on my lap to make room for her.
"Where's Elizabeth?" I asked.
"She doesn't take the bus." Selena said, rolling her eyes as if I should have known that. "Besides, she has a doctor's appointment today, she's not coming."
"Okay." I said. I stared out the window, watching the streets go past. I waited for Selena to say something, but she ever did, and we spent the rest of the trip in silence.

At school, I walked to my first class of the day, Spanish. I didn't have any classes with Selena or Elizabeth, but I did have one class with Megan. Spanish. She had transferred out of 1st year Spanish up to 2nd year, where I was. This was my least favorite class of the day.
I sat down in my seat in the back of the class. I took out my notebook and pencil and began to doodle in the back of my notebook. When Megan walked into the room, I ignored her, and she ignored me. It was easier that way.
I pondered what Rachel had said when she had begged to be friends with me again. I saw right through it. She was never like that; Megan must have been talking through her. Rachel was more quiet, sensitive. I regretted putting her picture on the posters I had placed on the back of the stalls in the bathroom: where teachers would not notice them.
At the end of class, Megan walked up to me. "Evil." She whispered as she walked past me. "You are evil, and you will regret it." I ignored her.

I walked up to Rachel during lunch. Selena was late for lunch, again, and I used the opportunity to talk to Rachel, because Selena thought I didn't deserve them. Rachel was sitting on her own, and this was the best time to try. She was looking down at her lunch.
"Rachel." I said. She looked up. "Why did you beg to be friends with us?"
"That wasn't me. It was for Megan. She wanted to know what you would say." She said without emotion. I sat down next to her.
"You don't have to talk for her, you know. You can just be yourself." I said softly. She nodded. I walked back over to my table with Selena. She didn't say anything, she just continued eating her lunch. I took out my lunch and began to eat. It wasn't long before Rachel sat down next to us. We all ate in silence.
The next day, Rachel joined Elizabeth, Selena and me in our group. We all understood that we were all friends, and it was all good.

Megan might not like me, and I didn't know about Kate, but Rachel was friends with me again, and I was still friends with Selena and Elizabeth. My life seemed to be turning for the better. Even though my wish hadn't come true, or it had gone bad, my life didn't suck. I was happy, with all my friends. The only wish I had now was to be happy, and it had just come true.

A post, finally.

This story is another joint project between Jennifer and me, but this one if somewhat different, in that Jennifer gave me the idea for the story, and I will be writing it. Jennifer will then be making this into a video, which I will post as well. I hope you like the story!

In Love Tonight

Prologue:
[Mom and girl are sitting on the couch in front of the TV/fireplace.]
Mirian: Mom, can you tell me a story?
Mom: Not right now, darling.
Mirian: Please?
Mom: [sighs] Alright. [pauses for a moment] Listen carefully.
Once upon a time there was a girl, about your age. This girl had magic powers, the power to kill demons. She was trained by a powerful magician, and then she left, to go out into the world, to kill demons. Every day she would go to school, or work, or just work around the house. Every night, after darkness fell, and before midnight, she would go out and kill demons. While she fought demons at night, during the day she saw a boy, about her age, and she fell in love with him, and him with her. One night, she was out fighting demons, when the one she was fighting shouted at her to stop. She stopped in surprise, because she recognized its voice. It transformed into the boy she loved, and he confessed that he was a demon. Neither of them knew what to do, because they were in love. The girl finally decided that she had to use her power for its purpose, and she fought the demon-boy she loved. She won the fight.
[Mom is sad, almost in tears. Girl is looking at mom with wondering look.]
Mom: Now go to bed, sweetie.
Mirian: Okay. Goodnight.
[Mirian goes to her room and goes to sleep.]
Later...
[Mom goes to check on girl. There is a demon in the room. Mom gasps. Girl wakes up, sits up straight in bed, shocked.]
Mom: Run.
[Mom throws a ball of purple fire at the demon, who dodges it and throws a ball of red fire at the Mom. It misses her barely.]
Mirian: But mom...
Mom: Run! Go away from here! Never come back. Save yourself, .
[Mirian runs out the door. Mom and demon continue to fight, red and purple fire. Mom takes a blast of red fire to the chest, and dies. The demon runs after the girl.]
[Mirian runs and runs. She streaks past everything in her way, and she runs straight into an open door. She doesn't stop running, instead she continues into the building. She runs and runs until she makes it into a small room. She shuts the door behind her. The room is dark, with only one window. She looks around briefly, and she doesn't notice anything dangerous. She collapses on the floor and falls asleep. Also in the room is a boy, around her age. She doesn't notice him, but he watches her intently for a while before slipping off into the night.]
